History of Department

Punjabi university was established in 1962 for the multifacted development of punjabi language, literature and culture. The department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib studies, established on April 4,1966, plays a vital role in achieving this Objective mission and visions. Department of Guru Granth Sahib Studies is the only Department In the world established in the name of Scripture. This department seeks to establish international recognition of sikh dharma chintan And religious socio-political and economic concerns of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Precious treasure of the ancient manuscripts are also adorned here. In 2010 the department also designed the crucial courses such as Certificate Course in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Post Graduate Diploma course in sikh theology, M.Phil. and Ph.D. The department periodically conducts workshops and seminars related to on-going research projects. For the new insights of research the department has so far Published in a numberable books, research projects and Nanak Prakash Patrika as well as it conducts research under various book series. The department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies is always on the lookout for new perspective of distinct religious aspects.
